With school just a short time away from starting a new year, this is the time many in the community head out to get school supplies, new clothes and all kinds of new accessories in time for the first day of school.

Each year before the beginning of the school year, the Family Support and Children's Justice Center holds an annual Back to School event providing materials for families and children in the community.

This year, over 168 backpacks were given out, 150 shoe vouchers and clothes and school supplies were handed out to families in the community on Thursday afternoon. Shelley Wright, director of the Family Support and Children's Justice Center, said materials provided by Jon Sanchez, who delivered a large carload of supplies to the center a few weeks ago, as well as other entities including ConocoPhillips who donated $5,000 to the center for the event. Wright also added that many others, including James and Amber Linn who donated 100 backpacks, helped donate materials to give out to those in need.
