Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth teams return from California regional tournaments
Babe Ruth 13U
The Carbon Babe Ruth 13U Baseball team returned from the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament play in Fowler, Calif., over the weekend. The team competed in two games at the tournament, falling to Ker West of California and Walker River, Nev., before returning home over the weekend. Head Coach Ronnie Gonzales said it was a great learning experience for the team and being able to compete against some great competition. He said the team was a little nervous to start the tournament but they settled in and played a hard fought game against Nevada.
"It was a good experience for the kids," said Gonzales. "They worked hard to get to California as Southern Utah champions and they should be able to walk away with their chins held high."
Cal Ripken 8U
The Carbon Cal Ripken 8U Baseball team finished play in the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament held in Long Beach, Calif., last week. Carbon, the champions from Southern Utah, competed in three games over the course of three days against teams including Riverton (Northern Utah champions), Long Beach, Calif. (host), and Scottsdale, Ariz. (Arizona champions). Despite not coming away with a victory, Head Coach Shane Henrie said the team played well against some very tough teams.
"The team performed really well and they held their own," said Henrie. "Overall it was a great experience for the team and they got to play at some really nice fields."
Henrie said he is hopeful that the experience will help the team continue to grow individually and as a team.
