Know the restrictions on fireworks

While the celebrations of Pioneer Day will be in full force on Thursday, no restrictions are in place for the shooting off of fireworks within the city limits of Price.

Price Fire Chief Paul Bedont said that no restrictions were put into place for this year despite the hot and dry weather that has been hitting the area since the beginning of the summer season.

With families expected to gather together and shoot off fireworks on the holiday, Bedont is asking people to exercise caution with playing with fireworks of any kind.

With the fires burning near Sunnyside as well as in Utah and across the Northwest part of the country, Bedont just wants people to be reminded about being as safe as possible.

"We just want to encourage people to be very careful when shooting any fireworks off," said Bedont. "Things are starting to really dry out around here and with the fires going on in the county right now, everyone should be careful."

Bedont said the curfew for shooting off fireworks on Pioneer Day ends at midnight and continues for three days after until the curfew moves back to 11 p.m.

There are restrictions in place across areas of state and federal land, according to Jason Llewelyn, director of the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. The State Forester is not allowing any open fires, which includes smoking outdoors, fires in not approved fire pits and the use of fireworks, in any part of state and federal land as well as the unincorporated portions of Carbon County.

Cities are open to implementing their own restrictions. Price and Wellington are allowing fireworks but urge extreme caution
