Pitching holds strong, offense breaks out for 24 runs in doubleheader sweep on Monday evening

With the season winding down, the Helper American Legion Baseball team is looking to heat up as the State Tournament looms in the background.

Helper continued to build momentum with a doubleheader sweep over Corner Canyon on Monday evening at home including a 17-1 five inning win in game one and a 7-2 victory in the final game.

Helper pitcher Cole Fossat threw a complete game, limiting the Corner Canyon offense to two hits and one unearned run.

The offense backed him up by collecting 17 hits, including three hits apiece from Fossat, Bryce Blackburn and Colton Greener.

In the second game, Kyler Nelson and Mitch Olson combined to hold Corner Canyon to two runs on four hits.

With the wins, Helper is firmly in third place at 9-3 in the Salt Lake Valley League standings behind leader Cyprus and Herriman.

Cisneros said he chose four players from Helper including Greener, Black Bean, Dominic Rondinelli and Marco Mota to participate in an All-Star game on Saturday, July 19.

Helper took on Highland on Wednesday evening before they travel to Judge on Friday evening at 6 p.m.
