No primary elections this year

A primary that is running across the state next Tuesday will not be taking place in any way, shape or form in Carbon County that day.

On May 6, Tim Urbanik, who was running against Thomas R. Jenson in the Republican primary for Carbon County Treasurer, withdrew from the race with no more explanation than that he was just pulling out. So the election became non-existent.

"We got the letter that day and that was good because we were just about to send the ballots out to be printed," said Deputy County Clerk Alexis Horsley on Wednesday morning.

That would have been the only race that was contested on primary voting day. The county would have had to print the ballots and open the polling stations, including early voting at the courthouse. That would have been expensive.

The treasurer's race boils down to Jenson against Democrat Kay Colosimo on Nov. 4.
