Fire! Sparks thought to be the cause of more than 10 blazes in Carbon County
A fire causing agent being thrown from the train tracks which run along U.S. Highway 6 started at least 10 fires Friday afternoon as crews from Price, Wellington, Carbon County and Helper raced to subdue the multiplying blazes.
"A train could have lost a bearing, right now we just don't know," said Price City Fire Chief Paul Bedont as he paroled Price's seven small fires. "But a train did cause these fires, every one has started just off the side of the tracks."
Additional fires in Wellington and Carbonville put every Carbon County Fire Fighter on alert as the crews worked to make sure none of the fires reached a structure or fuel load.
Dry conditions and gusting winds made the multiple blazes difficult to contain as Public Safety Officials including the Carbon County Sheriff's Office, Price Police, Helper Police and Wellington City Police teamed up to keep motorists safe as the fires were subdued along U.S. Highway 6.
"Right now all the fires have been small and we have been able to keep them under control," said Bedont. "We hope that continues."
