HELPER-James V. Paletta, age 88, passed away May 9, 2014 while surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 1, 1926 in Sunnyside to Mike and Mary Lamonna Paletta.
Married the love of his life, Betty Irene Drolc, July 19, 1952 in Reno, Nev. and together they worked hand in hand as owners of Jimbo's Steakhouse and Lounge in Helper.
Jim was a faithful member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and E Clampus Vitus. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Jim loved camping, fishing and creating memories with family and friends. He enjoyed having breakfast and a cup of coffee with his buddies, especially with his coffee buddy, Danny Angotti.
Jim had a unique way of making everyone feel important. He loved sharing stories, playing pool and coaching his children and nephews in their sports. His love of pool, enabled him to help organize the Pool League in Carbon County. Jim was known by many as the "Chip-Man" and he graciously shared his chips with everyone in the neighborhood. His generosity and friendship will be cherished forever.
Survived by two sons and two daughters, Van J. Paletta, Cathy (Lloyd) Workman, both of Helper, Debbie Paletta, Spring Glen, Jimmy V. (Sherry) Paletta, Price; special nephew, Ronnie Paletta; 10 grandchildren, Tiffany, Billy, Michelle, Brittany, Kaylum, Krista, Jay, Angel, Kelly and Regan; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty; brother, Pete; sisters, Frances, Rachel, Mary, Vera and Catherine.
Funeral Mass, Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 1 p.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service, Tuesday evening 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will receive friends at the church Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
