SALT LAKE CITY - Arthur Lee Martines, 73, died May 2, 2014, with his family by his side in Salt Lake City. He was born July 8, 1940 in Del Norte, Colo. to Agnes (Martinez) and John M. Martines, the youngest of five children.

Art was raised in Colorado and Utah. He graduated from Notre Dame in Price, Utah. He attended CEU, where he played football. He then he attended college at the Univeristy of Utah, graduating from Utah State University and later completed his Master in Education Administration at Brigham Young University..

He met his wife, Joyce Barnes, while attending the U of U. Together they raised three children in Price, Utah. Later they moved to Evanston, Wyo. They were approaching their 50th anniversary this year.

Art's passion for politics started with his election to the Carbon County School Board in Utah where he served for 12 years. This was followed by serving two terms as Mayor of Price. His interest and participation in politics continued and later included working with Utah Congressman Merrill Cook. Art was also an elementary school teacher in Price, Utah and Evanston, Wyo.

Art had a passion for all sports. He was active in basketball, football, baseball, golf, and bowling over the years, and also enjoyed coaching little league baseball. His knowledge of sports was encyclopedic, which he often shared with those around him. He remained a fan of U of U athletics, and in his later years he enjoyed attending all the U of U football games.

Art loved people and took pride and delight in friendships and community activities. He was member of several organizations, including the Elks and the Masons.

Art is survived by his spouse, Joyce, his children Art Jr., Anthony (Heather), Amber, his grandchildren Morganne, Mckenzie, Miranda, Saylor, and Carson; his brother Rudy (Lydia), and sister Josie (Ted) Lujan .

Preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Joe Santisteven, brother-in-law Ted Lujan and brothers John and Benny.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday May 6, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston, Wyo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Wednesday May 7, 2014 at Noon at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price. Family will receive friends at the church Wednesday one hour prior to Mass. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Art at
