With two more competitions before the state meet, members of the Carbon High Track and Field team will get a good opportunity to compete against some of the best this weekend at the BYU Invite on May 2-3.

The girls team came away with a trophy from the Eastern Utah Championships held in San Juan last weekend. The girls ran away with the title with a total of 185 points in front of second place finisher Grand with 119 points.

The girls were led by performances including Zaharah Rossi, Sarah Ohlwiler, Jordyn Oman, Jaylie Jensen and Lindsey Blanc, who is out for the rest of the season with a broken foot.

The boys team, who were without senior leader Garrett Marsing, had strong performances from Kyle Barrett, Dallin Quinton and Peyton Fausett to finish in fourth place.

Carbon finished in first place in first place overall with 252 points with Uintah in second with 243 points.

"Every week it seems like it's always someone new that is stepping up for us," said CHS Head Coach Jimmy Jewkes.

The team will send about 20 competitors to the BYU Invite.
