EAST CARBON - Our family has lost our sweet mom, loving grandma, sister and aunt Kathleen (Katie) who passed away peacefully on April 25, 2014 at Castleview Hospital in Price. She was born Oct. 27, 1929 in Columbia to Leland A. and Melva Wareham Nelson.

She married the love of her life, Jim Eaquinto on Sept. 5, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sunnyside; he preceded her in death Jan. 1, 2013. Mom was baptized into the Catholic Church on Sept. 4, 1948.

She served as Eucharistic Minister and lector at Good Shepherd Church since lay persons were authorized to participate in the Mass. She was president of the Good Shepherd Women's Society and Southeastern Deanery Council of Catholic Women simultaneously from 1973 to 1974. Katie was honored as Catholic Woman of the Year in 1982 and she attended seven National Council of Catholic Women's Conventions.

She gave tirelessly in support of all her children's activities, driving them to numerous activities throughout the state, working at charity events and was room-mother for many years at Notre Dame School. She and Papa also actively supported all of their grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities in multiple states.

Katie was a dedicated care giver all her life, caring for in-laws, parents and tenderly cared for her husband.

Katie loved jewelry, bowling with special friends and gambling whenever she got the chance. She made beautiful crocheted table cloths, afghans, and quilts for every child, grandchild and great grandchild that they will forever treasure. She was an excellent cook and baked special cookies and Easter bread that she shipped to her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Bill (Debbie), Roslyn (Randy) Gunderson, Jim (Suzi), Kathleen (Steve) Wright, and Carolyn Howell, 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two on the way, brother Clark (Toni) Nelson, sister-in-law Marilyn Nelson, many nieces and nephews, and special nephew Frankie (Toni) Sacco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Kendall.

Funeral Mass Tuesday, April 29, 2014, 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, East Carbon. A Vigil service will be held on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main) Price. Family will be at Mitchell's from 5 - 7 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to Mass at the church in East Carbon. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery Price.
