PRICE-We lost our beloved Clorinda Garcia Cordova, on April 19, 2014 in Price, after a brave battle following a stroke in 2011.
She was born Oct. 27, 1935 in Pagosa Springs, Colo. to Navirr and Annie Lovato Garcia.
Married Richard Cordova, they later divorced.
Clorinda was a devoted mother, first and foremost. She took great pride and excelled in everything she did. She was always a classy beautiful woman who took pride in her appearance. Clorinda always dressed for the occasion.
Her many accomplishments included: President of S.O.C.I.O. (Spanish Speaking Organization of Culture Integrity and Opportunity), teacher's aide, Department of Mental Health and entrepreneur of a family restaurant (Cordova's Authentic Mexican Food). She found her passion and thrived in her career, eventually advancing to Executive Director of Housing Authority. She started with the Housing Authority in Carbon County, later moving to Aurora, Ill. then to Telluride, Colo. and finally to Ogden where she eventually retired.
Clorinda was a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. She handed down these values and taught her family the importance of the democratic process. She won the distinction of Chicana of the Year for the State of Utah in 1979. She was proud of her Hispanic heritage and it showed through her amazing cooking. Clorinda never knew a stranger and everyone was always invited to her table. She was charismatic and loved being social. Her biggest struggle towards the end was the loss of her ability to speak and communicate like she wanted. She never lost her dignity through her declining health.
Survived by her children, Richard Cordova, Helper, Phillip (Valerie) Cordova, Grace, Idaho, Debra (Larry) Madrigal, Price, David (Becky) Cordova, Rock Springs, Wyo., James (Anna) Cordova, Price; God daughter, Angela Bryan, Florida;16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and her special great-grandkids, Anthony, Alana and Lauryn, all of Price; siblings, Katherine Smith, Dorothy (Jim) Johnston, Billy (Karen) Jimenez; special sister-in-law, Ruby Cordova; and her precious companions, "Baby" and "Foxy".
Preceded in death by parents, infant daughter, Deborah; and son, Raynel "Ned" Cordova; sister-in-law, Eleanor Madrid; in-laws, Ezequiel and Maria Cordova.
Her selfless example shines brightest through her only daughter, Debbie, who was with her everyday until the end. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
