Wilson's homer leads hot Lady Dinos offense in 12-2 win over Richfield

Momentum is a big thing in sports. No matter the sport, nothing can be bigger than a team feeding off a big win as the season enters the final stretch run.

For the Carbon High softball team, that's exactly the hope after their 12-2 six inning win over Richfield on Friday afternoon at the Carbon County Field Ball Park.

The Lady Dinos jumped out to a 10-1 lead after three innings and never looked back.

Carbon got contributions in all aspects of the game. Pitcher McKenna Sorenson threw six strong innings, the defense played strong keep Richfield from mounting any rallies and the offense scored early and often in the region win.

Carbon High senior Alexus Wilson provided the big highlight smacking a no doubt home run to right field in the sixth inning.

"Our offense is seeing the ball really well right now," said CHS head coach Kirt Nunley. "We jumped on them early and we just rolled from there."

Nunley credited the defense with helping giving Sorenson more confidence on the mound.

"Our defense is one of the best in 3A," said Nunley.

With the win, Carbon is currently in third place in Region 12 at 3-3 and 7-7 overall.

Carbon will host region leader Payson on Tuesday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the Carbon County Ball Field.

"We just need to keep hitting and continue playing strong defense," said Nunley.
