EAST CARBON-Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and longtime friend, James Francis Avery, age 86, returned to our Heavenly Father on March 24, 2014.
He was born April 5, 1927 in Glenwood to David Francis and Effie Koester Avery. Married Vera Josephine Nuzio, Nov. 19, 1950 in Sunnyside. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on June 30, 1962. Vera passed away on August 20, 2011.
James was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as Ward Clerk and in numerous other capacities.He honorably served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. James was a resident of East Carbon since 1949 and a proud and dedicated member of the United Mine Workers of America, Kaiser Steel Local # 9958. He was a true craftsman who enjoyed tinkering in his garage and building "Go-Carts" for his sons. He was nicknamed "Quasar" for his talents in repairing TV's. James enjoyed traveling and caring for his family. Family meant everything, and he made sure that he kept in contact with everyone in his extended family. He will be dearly missed by his family and many wonderful friends and neighbors in the East Carbon area.
Survived by his sons, David (Janene) Avery, East Carbon, Paul (Ann) Avery, Provo; grandchildren, James (Amanda) Avery, Clifton, Colo., Stephanie (Cory) Burdick, East Carbon, Linsey (TJ) Robinson, Midvale, Amber (Jonathan) Foster, Saratoga Springs, Ryan (Crystal) Avery, Eagle Mountain, Alexis (Travis) Taylor, Fillmore, Jason (Tami) Avery, Eagle Mountain, Brent Avery, Provo; great-grandchildren, Morgan, D.J. and Callie Avery; Ray and Cole Burdick, Karley and Sara Robinson, Cambrie and Ethan Foster, Connor and Caden Avery, Jayden, Paityn, Travis Jr., Taylor and Troy Avery; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral service, Thursday, March 27, 2014, 11 a.m., East Carbon LDS Ward Chapel. Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church in East Carbon Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
