Letter to the Editor: The right to choose

By Carl Kem

There has been an awful lot of argument over gay rights recently. It reminds me of a time when homosexuality was considered a mental illness.

Truly, one cannot stand up for America if they stand for one of anything. America was built by many races, colors, creeds and religions. If we must be tolerant of religion, we must be tolerant of race. Likewise we must be tolerant of as much of the choice in genders as we are of other races. To be American means to be tolerant.

But in being tolerant we must also tolerate the right to choose, and in the right to choose we have the right to be separate (racially, religiously or sexually) if we wish, as well.
