Carbon County man pleads guilty to Sexual Solicitation
A Carbon County man plead guilty in Seventh District Court Tuesday to one felony count of Sexual Solicitation. In exchange for his plea, the allegedly HIV positive individual, was granted the dismissal of a second degree felony prostitution count.
On June 5, 2013, Leon Carl Mead, 59, was charged by Carbon County Attorney Jeremy Humes with three felony crimes, all of a sexual nature. The charges included; Aggravated Exploitation of Prostitution, a second degree felony; Sexual Solicitation HIV Positive, a third degree felony; and Distribution of Pornography by an Adult.
On December 20, 2013 the Distribution of Pornography by an Adult charge was dropped by the county attorney's office. The suspect entered a plea of not guilty to the remaining charges and a jury trail was set for March 11.
On Tuesday, the state advised district court judge Douglas B Thomas that plea negotiations had allowed Mead to plead guilty to the third degree felony solicitation charge in exchange for the dismissal of the second degree felony prostitution count.
Thomas accepted the agreement and requested that Mead prepare a pre-sentencing report for Adult Probation and Parole before his sentencing in Seventh District Court on May 27. The third degree charge carries a possible sentence of zero to five years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.
