USU Eastern Baseball now 8-8 on the season picking up four confidence building wins

The game of baseball can be difficult with hitters and pitchers fighting through slumps and looking for that good pitch or strong at-bat to help get things turned around.

But not too much in the game feels better than getting a four-game sweep of your opponent.

USU Eastern took all four of the games against the Idaho All-Stars on Friday (14-4, 10-3) and Saturday (8-0, 13-2) at the USU Eastern Baseball Field.

"Things went pretty well for us this weekend," said USU Eastern Head Coach Scott Madsen.

Madsen said the games were key for a team looking to build confidence with a tough schedule over the rest of the season.

Jonathan Santiago and Greg Ashley hit home runs, Tyson Hutchins had a great weekend with seven hits total in the four games and Bryce Blackburn picked up four RBIs for the Golden Eagles.

"These games gave us a chance to step back and work on a lot of things including getting our hitters more confidence at the plate," said Madsen.

The pitchers also had strong performances led by Colter Moore's six-inning, 12 strikeout outing on Saturday. Sean Hardman and Chase Castleberry also had good performances as well as most of the pitching staff getting a chance to get some work in against the Idaho All-Stars.

With USU Eastern now at 8-8 on the season, there will be little time for the team to rest as they will hit the road to travel to Thatcher, Ariz., where they will take on Eastern Arizona College for four games from Wednesday through Friday.
