OGDEN - Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Maria "Mary" Olimpia Salazar Perea, 90, passed away March 5, 2014 at her home. She was born Jan. 26, 1924 in Rio Arriba County, N.M. to Eudoro and Aurelia Martinez Salazar. She attended Gordon Creek Elementary, Latuda Jr. High and Carbon High School. Maria married John J. Perea in Price. She lived in Columbia from 1941 to 1968 when she moved to Ogden.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church where she was in the choir for 40 plus years, promoter of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, CCD teacher and a member of the Prayer Group for several years.
Maria is survived by her children, Paulette Blair, John Perea, Steven T. Perea, Patrick L. Perea and Jacqueline M. Perea; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and her siblings, Theodore (Lois) Salazar, Virginia Salazar and Loretta (Earl) Conroy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years; son, Paul Gregory; grandson, Todd W. Smit; two brothers, Samuel and Phillip Salazar and son-in-law, Virgil A Blair.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, 495 No. Harrison Blvd. Family and friends may gather on March 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. where a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. and Monday, at St. James prior to the service. Interment will follow the Funeral Mass at Ben Lomond Cemetery.
