An artist's rendering shows what the Miners Memorial in the Price Peace Garden will look like when it is complete. Gary Prazen of Original Creation, Inc. in Carbonville is designing the memorial and will do the sculpture and the plaques for the stone walls which will hold the names of the over 1,300 miners that have been killed in Carbon County mines since coal started being mined in the area. The list of names as they are now listed is posted at sunad, com. The committee that is putting together the memorial is still gathering names and make corrections on those on the list. If you have information about miners who may not be on the list please email Frank Markosek at The committee is also accepting donations to support the memorial which when completed will cost $150,000-$200,000. They are holding a series of events to raise money including a Poker Tournament in April (see the ad on page 6A of today's Sun Advocate) and a fund raising dinner at the Tuscan Restaurant on May 15. The projected dedication for the memorial is Labor Day 2015.
