Down by 10 in the fourth quarter against Juan Diego, things looked bleak for Carbon High. With their season hanging in the balance, the Lady Dinos refused to give in.

Carbon answered the challenge as they went on a 15-3 run over the final minutes of the fourth quarter coming away with the unlikeliest of wins 33-31 on Friday evening in Draper.

Carbon was down 28-18 early in the fourths quarter as Juan Diego looked as if they would run away with a win.

But Carbon, slowly but surely, overcame the 10 point deficit taking a 32-31 lead on a Jordan Scoggins baseline basket with 25 seconds left. Juan Diego's Monique Mills was fouled with 7.7 seconds left but she missed both free throw attempts.

Carbon freshman Lindsey Blanc hit 1-of-2 free throws with four seconds remaining to give the Lady Dinos a two point lead. Mills' last second runner in the paint bounced out of the hoop giving Carbon the win as the bench poured onto the floor in celebration of the upset.

Both teams struggled on offense through much of the game as Carbon used a slower approach that concentrated on finding an open player down in the paint. Juan Diego had an early 10-4 lead but Carbon responded going on a 9-2 run to close out the first half 13-12.

Morgan Hillam played one of her best games of the year scoring seven points in the first half. She came off the bench after senior Shelby Cornforth picked up two fouls in the first two minutes.

"I just told myself I needed to step up when Shelby went out," said Hillam.

While Carbon High seniors Cornforth and Annika Hansen were possibly playing in their final game for Carbon High, it was key plays made by two sophomores (Hillam and Scoggins) and a freshman (Blanc) that gave the Lady Dinos a huge win.

"Morgan played great. Jordan's shot helped set the tone down the stretch. And Lindsey made that big free throw at the end," said Cornforth. "Seeing them (the underclassmen) make those plays at the end, it makes us as seniors more comfortable to know that they can step in and make plays to help us win."

Carbon High Head Coach Ted Bianco called the win "the best ever" in his coaching career.

"It's the best win I've ever had as a coach," Bianco said. "We weren't picked to win by anyone. The girls gave everything they had and won a game against a top team on the road."

Carbon will now travel to Southern Utah University in Cedar City on Thursday for the 3A quarterfinals where they will face the winner of Bear River/Cedar game at 5:50 p.m.
