Defensive effort leads Lady Dinos to win
Region win over Richfield helps increase Carbon High's chances of hosting playoff game
A banner on the wall inside the Carbon High School Gymnasium has written on it "Whatever your 100 percent looks like, DO IT".
For the Carbon High Lady Dinos, maximum effort on defense and a solid offensive performance led to a 45-31 win over Richfield in Region 12 play with two games left on the schedule.
The Lady Dinos took a five-point lead into halftime despite opportunities to push the lead into double digits. They come out and utilized their signature pressing defense to success getting a double digit lead and never looking back.
"We upped the tempo on offense and defense in the second half," said CHS junior Jaylie Jensen who finished with seven points. "We worked really well together on the floor."
Shelby Cornforth led the Lady Dinos (10-10 overall and 3-3 in Region 12) with a double-double including 17 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Katie Basinger had 10 points and freshman Lindsey Blanc added seven points.
CHS head coach Ted Bianco said the team now controls their own destiny with the 3A playoffs. A chance to host a playoff game at home instead of traveling to Morgan or Juan Diego is something the team should strive for, he said.
"We are where we want to be right now," said Bianco. "It would be huge for us to host a playoff game instead of having to go on the road."
