PRICE - Louis Paul (Joe) Nick, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, age 95, passed away from natural causes in Grand Junction, Colorado on January 16, 2014.

He was born in Spring Glen, Utah on July 30, 1918 to John (Giovanni) and Maria Teresa Cortese Nick. He was married to Donna Ruth Olson Nick from December 24, 1939 until her passing in November of 1996. They raised four wonderful children, Judy Garmann, Gary Nick, Connie

Hamblin and Jolene Sanders. Joe later married his favorite dancing partner, Elaine Pero of Price, Utah in October, 2001.

Joe was a very proud, hardworking man, a cowboy at heart and loved playing the guitar and singing. He knew well over 200 songs and enjoyed entertaining at the Price Senior Center for many years.

He was a front line mechanic in the Army serving in Germany during World War II for two years and often spoke of how difficult it was to be away from his family and friends for such a long period of time; but was extremely proud to have served his country. He was a great story teller and those stories live on in us as we recount those same stories through the humorous and observant lens that he gave to us.

He worked at Lion Coal and Independent Coal and Coke before joining United States Steel Corporation at the Wellington Washing Preparation Coal Plant in March, 1958 until retirement performing various classifications including: Coarse Coal Operator, Stationary Equipment Operator, Mechanic, and Car Dropper.

The family would like to thank the Heirloom Inn of Price, Utah, Rocky Mountain Home Care of Price, Utah, The Commons of Hilltop in Grand Junction, Colorado, the Larchwood Inns of Grand Junction, Colorado, the Veterans Memorial Hospital of Grand Junction, Colorado and Hospice of Palliative Care of Grand Junction, Colorado for the professional, loving care they provided Joe in the last few years of his life. The care he received from these facilities was the best and he thrived under their loving care and expertise. The family would also like to thank Bobby, Annette and Robert Etzel at Mitchell Funeral Home for all their wonderful support and assistance during this difficult time.

Joe is survived by his wife, Elaine Pero, Price, Utah; sister, Paulmina New, Price, Utah; brother, Martin Nick, San Jose, California; four children; grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to the American Parkinson's Disease Association.

Funeral Service were held on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family received friends at Mitchell Funeral Home Saturday prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Louis online at
