HELPER - Our beloved brother, uncle and longtime friend, Ronald Edward Mutz, 78, passed away Jan. 1, 2014 at his home.
He was born July 19, 1935 in Helper to Joseph and Sarah Jane Johnson Howard Mutz.
Married Della Lee Junior, Feb. 12, 1964 in Elko, Nevada. She passed away on Jan. 21, 1980.
Ronald graduated from Carbon High School in 1953. He worked on the Union Pacific Railraod for about 5 years and later went to work in the coal mines in Carbon County and Kentucky for 53 years. He was very active in the United Mine Workers of America District # 22. He enjoyed mining and was certified as a Fire Boss on January 4, 1979 and as a Mine Foreman on April 5, 1979.
Ron was very active in Helper City Council meetings over several years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in later years was sealed to his wife and son in the Temple.
Ron loved going fishing, camping, and spending time in the mountains. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and helping his neighbors. He enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and going for walks up the Kenilworth tracks and back. He loved his morning coffee with his friends as they tried to solve the world's problems. Everyone will miss his input in the conversations.
Ron idolized his son, Ronnie, and raised him as a single parent since the age of 16. He was devastated when Ronnie passed away at the young age of 32.
Ron loved children, especially his nieces, nephews and Mark and Sonja's children. He was like a grandpa to all of them. Ron "adopted" many grandkids and he loved to tease them. When the school kids were selling tickets for events, he took a fist full each time and sold them for the kids.
Ron is now with his beloved wife and son. He will be missed by everyone who loved him very much.
