Carbon High swimmers split wins in Richfield
Dino swimmers traveled to Richfield on Nov. 26 to compete against their toughest region competitors.
The girls team pulled out a close win defeating Richfield 81-80 but the boys fell short with a final score of 99-68.
Girls started the meet out strong with a win in the 200 medley relay consisting of Addy Olson, Sadie Crompton, Veronica Ibanez, and Susannah Ohlwiler. In the 200 freestyle Brittney Willson finished 2nd with her best time of 2:20.63, and Lauren Engar in 3rd slimming her time by 12 seconds and clocking in at 2:22.90. In the boys 200 free, Joel Garff took 1st with his best time of 2:09.07.
In the girls 200 I.M. Ibanez took seven seconds off her time with a 2:41.58 and a 2nd place finish.
In the girls 50 free 14 girls competed and Carbons 6 swimmers all finished in the top 7 Addy Olson leading the way with a 2nd place finish. Boys 50 free had Joseph Keller topping off Carbon with a 2nd place finish and his best time 25.89. Ibanez continued her great swimming with a 1st place in the 100 butterfly and best time of 1:11.84, teammate Engar right on her heels in 2nd with a 1:15.29.
Ryan Atwood competing in the 100 butterfly for the first time received a first place with a time if 1:17.22. Willson dominated the 100 freestyle in 1st finishing with a 1:02.65. Joel Garff finished his 100 freestyle in 1st with a best time of 54.16. In the longest event of the night the 500 freestyle, Carbon had swimmers that have never done this event before and had 2nd place finishers in both girls and the boys Olson swam a 6:59.54 for the girls and Will Laursen swam a 7:41.55 for the boys.
Susannah Ohlwiler, despite loosing her goggles at the start, held strong in 2nd for the 100 backstroke while teammate Joseph Keller took 1st with on outstanding time if 1:08.20. Garrett Marsing is new to the sport of swimming but showing how fast he can pick it up he placed 2nd in the 100 breaststroke.
Even though the boys were losing they finished strong with a swim in the 400 freestyle relay. The team consisted of Keller, Atwood, Earl, and Garff.
