Wellington gets new mayor, Helper retains Chavez among local voting results

Wellington City has a new mayor as Joan Powell defeated incumbent Ben Blackburn 174-142 on Tuesday.

In Helper, Ed Chavez retained his mayoral seat by a wide margin, defeating Matt Montoya 205-69. Concerning the tax initiatives on Tuesday's ballot, Helper residents voted to accept the Recreation, Arts and Parks tax aimed at civic improvements 174-118.

Price incumbent Kathy Hanna-Smith won another four year term along with Miles Nelson, who will replace the outgoing Grady McEvoy.

Price's Zoo, Art and Parks or ZAP tax was approved by a landslide 518-139.

Note that all results are preliminary pending any possible canvass or absentee ballots.
