Carbon Jailer booked on child sex charges

A civilian Carbon County Jail employee, John Gerald Shiew, 35, of Carbonville, was arrested and booked into the Emery County Jail Wednesday on 10 felony and misdemeanor counts including rape and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Price City Police Capt. Bill Barnes reported that Shiew, was placed on administrative leave after being arrested by Price City detectives. He will now face a departmental internal investigation.

Shiew was arrested for rape, a first degree felony; aggravated sexual assault of a child, a second degree felony; child abuse, a class A misdemeanor; two counts of enticing a minor, a class A misdemeanor; two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor a class B misdemeanor and two counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor a class A misdemeanor.

Barnes stated that because of ongoing aspects of the investigation no further information would be coming from the department. The Carbon County Attorney's Office will now decide what charges to file concerning the criminal informations.
