Soles 2 Souls Shoe Program

Participating Carbon, Emery, and Duchesne County Schools agreed to partner with the United Way of Eastern Utah to help provide a brand new pair of shoes to school children in need. The program serves children K-12th grade, and referrals for the program come directly from school staff.

This program was created when we realized a few things:

1. Teachers every year in every school reach into their own pockets to assist children in their classes that are in need of basic essentials, like shoes.

2. We would receive numerous calls at the start of every school year from panicking parents who could not afford school shoes.

3. There are children in this area who have never had the privilege of having their very own new pair of shoes.

This program was created to help meet the needs of children, and to keep teachers from spending their own money to help their students. Our goal was also to focus on promoting physical activity in children, along with helping with a positive self-image. This program started in August 2013, and will run for the entire school year.
