Helper, Mont Harmon set for second rivalry game on the gridiron
With the second game between the two rivals set for later this week, Mont Harmon and Helper Junior High experienced different weeks on the gridiron this past week.
Helper defeated San Rafael 44-14 last Wednesday afternoon in a game played at the Mont Harmon football field.
The Rams took control and continued to add points on offense over the course of the game. The game also included a few notable moments, according to longtime Helper resident Walt Borla, which included a San Rafael player returning a kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, San Rafael attempted an onside kick but Helper caught the kick at the 50-yard line and returned it for a touchdown. Later in the game, Helper kicked off to San Rafael as one of the visiting players thought the ball was going to travel out of bounds. The ball settled on the 20-yard line in play and with no San Rafael player touching it, a Helper player scooped up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown.
Canyon View defeated Mont Harmon on Wednesday 32-14. The Pirates led 14-12 before losing their discipline and giving up 22 unanswered points, according to Mont Harmon head coach Jarad Hardy. Nate Olson again led the offense with 86 yards on 14 carries. Jordan Gren ran in one touchdown. Triton Abeyta connected with Krey Keele on a 40 yard touchdown pass.
Helper and Mont Harmon will meet for the final time this season during Homecoming Week on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Carbon High football field. Helper won the previous meeting 24-6 back on Sept. 4.
