EASLEY, S.C. - USAF-Master Sergeant Donald Edward Pike Husband, Father, Papa and Friend went to be with Jesus on Aug. 27, 2013 at the VA NursingÂ home in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born Feb. 8, 1930 in Price to Leonard Anthony and Lucille Quinney Pike.
Mr. Pike was a retired Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of dedicated service where he earned the following awards: Air Force Medal, Longevity Service Award, Good Conduct Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship, Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He married Phyllis Jean Patterson July 28, 1973 in Price and attended Salt Lake Community College graduating with a degree, Associate of Applied Science in Marketing, 1975.Â He moved back to Price in 1978 to care for his parents, worked for Jeanselme's and then Smith's Food King and was a member of Trinity Christian Center (Price).
Don and Phyllis moved to Easley, S.C. in 1998 to be close to their children.Â He was a member of Gap Hill Church (Six Mile, S.C.).Â In 2011 they moved to Ohio to live with their daughter, Lannie (Rick and Ryan).
Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Phyllis, daughter-in-law Cinderella Patterson; daughter, Ruth Fitzpatrick, George (West Palm Beach, Fla.); son, Joe Sadler (Easley, S.C.); daughter, Lannie Kerns, Rick (Belpre, OH); sister- in-laws Glorya Eaquinta (Price), Mary Pike (Washington), Joann Pike (Easley, S.C.), Madelin Bolin (Colorado), and Sharone Edmunds, Charles (Montana); brother-in-laws Richard Patterson (Huntington, W.V.) and Fred Patterson (Proctorville, OH); one niece Pam Ghattas (Solomons, MD); nephews, Bobby Pike (Price) andÂ Pete Eaquinta, Lynette (Helper); and special friends, Pastor Arville Patton (Price) and Trish Kerns (Belpre, OH).Â He was the World's Greatest Papa to Eric Smith, LaVonÂ (Sandston VA), Gina Reid, DonÂ (Williamston, S.C.), Nickalos Sadler (Price), Stephen Sadler (Price), BrendenÂ Sadler (Easley, S.C.), and Ryan Kerns (Belpre, OH); and seven great-grandchildren.Â
Preceded in death by parents, brothers Bruce (who was killed in World War II) Norman, Allan and Bob Pike; a son Stephen Patterson; brother-in-laws, Dominic Eaquinta and Bill Patterson; sister-in-laws Vernita Pike, Charlotte Pike and Norma Patterson; and nephewÂ Nicky Eaquinta.Â
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, SC.
