Lady Dinos looking for consistency on the court as season progresses
While the Carbon High volleyball team can be happy about getting a win heading into their annual rivalry game with Emery High, there is much work to be done according to head coach Danielle Jensen.
The Lady Dinos (4-6 overall) picked up a three set win over Manti (25-18, 25-14, 26-24) on Thursday night at home over visiting Manti.
Jensen said the team came out strong in the first two sets but struggled in the third set before finally putting Manti away.
"Winning in three sets was huge for us," said Jensen. "We've really struggled with closing out games and its hurt us a lot this year."
Jensen said a recent example of not being able to close out a win was against Tooele last Tuesday night. Despite having a 2-1 set lead, the Lady Dinos dropped the final two sets as Tooele was able to come away for the win.
As the pre-region games continue, Jensen said the team will need to develop a consistency in all key areas of the game.
"We've got to remember to do all of the little things necessary to win games," she explained. Some of those include having good team passing, serving well and not giving other teams points off of errors.
Jensen said the hard work and effort needed to succeed has been there for the girls since practice began. But now, with tough games like Emery and Region 12 play on the horizon, everything needs to come together during the games.
"We need to continue to adjust better to different situations and not relax if we are up on the other team," she said.
