Oversize load meets high voltage

Those are 46,000-volt power lines snagging the metallic cargo of a semi heading up Nine Mile Canyon Road Thursday afternoon. The truck was hauling an enormous compressor fan to a natural gas facility up the canyon when it snagged the overhead lines near the old Soldier Creek coal mine. The tension snapped one line and tilted two wooden poles. Fortunately, the driver stayed in the cab. Rocky Mountain Power advises anyone in a similar situation to stay put and wait for trained people to remove power lines. Only a few industrial customers, including the Dugout Canyon Mine, were affected. It took several hours to restore power.
