The Wellington City Council Wednesday accepted the resignation of Police Chief Lee Barry. Council members also approved a separation agreement.

Terms of that agreement and the reason for Barry's departure were not disclosed. Mayor Ben Blackburn said the city administration and the chief agreed to confidentiality.

Barry had been with the Wellington police department for 26 years. His resignation was effective July 12.

Blackburn said there will be no immediate replacement for the position. The city will evaluate the department needs before deciding for the long term, he explained.
