Greek Festival, Highlights

For many Greek immigrants who came to Carbon County long ago, the American Dream was to earn enough money in the mines to go back home and raise a family. Then those immigrants decided to build themselves a church. With the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church as an anchor for the Greek community, wives joined husbands in the new country and families stayed. Over the years, those immigrants and their descendants became vital parts of the county's diverse culture. For almost four decades now, the annual Greek Festival has been a way for the Greek community to share its culture and cuisine, and to raise funds for the church. They don't do it alone, though. You'll see people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds working on the serving lines. This year's event was chaired by Terry Gleave and Sherrie Vlamakis.
