The 10 year-old Carbon Blue All Stars are Cal Ripken baseball state champions.

Remaining undefeated through three days of play at home in Price, Carbon Blue got big hits when they needed and strong pitching throughout, finishing the tournament with a pair of tense one-run victories.

"These kids were amazingly focused for their age," said team scorekeeper Nicole Steele, who also has a son on the team.

Price and Vernal, the tournament's only undefeated teams heading into the weekend, met in semi-final action on Saturday morning after a storm postponed Friday play. Down three in the third, Carbon's Jordan Fossat locked on to a Vernal fastball and cleared the bases with a grand slam.

This year's tournament marked the first occasion in several years that the home run was a factor, as 10 year old All Stars often play on a field that lacks a Cal Ripken regulation fence.

Vernal tied the contest in the fourth, before Levi Schade crossed the plate in the bottom half, making the score 5-4 and handing the Uintah Basin squad their first loss. Jered Davies pitched the game's first four innings with Dillion Thomas coming on to close out the last two.

Vernal would not go down quietly however, as they returned to face Carbon Blue in the tourney's final Saturday night.

In the Championship game Carbon trailed by 3 runs heading into the last inning. Seven runs for each team heading into extra-innings after three days of play. In the top of the seventh, Vernal hit a single to left field to start overtime action. The next batter hit the ball straight at second base and Cayden Steele, who tagged the oncoming runner and threw to first for a double play, negating the Vernal threat.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Jered Davies needed only one pitch in the bottom of the seventh to make Carbon Blue 10 year-old State Champs. His walk off home-run gave Carbon an 8-7 win and punch their ticket to the next round of play in California. In the championship, Jordan Fossat pitched the first four innings before Cooper Schade came on for two with Dillion Thomas closing out the last set.

The team now heads toVisalia, CA where they will face the likes of Arizona, Guam, Hawaii, Nothern Utah, Northern California, Central California, Southern Utah, Nevada, Visalia and Southern California. They will be selling snow cones through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Smith's, Walmart and Sutherlands to help finance the trip. Donations will also be taken and greatly appreciated.

The Carbon Blue team is Jordan Fossat, Austin Emerson, Jered Davies, Cayden Steele, Levi Schade, Cooper Schade, Chase Magann, Ryker Childs, Brayton Nielsen, Dillion Thomas and Austin Fiechko. They are coached by Bob Fossat, Mark Emerson and Cletis Steele.
