Helper Legion bombs Herriman at home
Picking up their 10th league win of the season in dominating fashion, the Helper American Legion squad shut down Herriman 10-0 on Monday night.
Pitching was the story in the fifth inning mercy rule decision as Cole Fossat pitched four shutout innings giving up only two hits. Fossat faced runners and second and third with no outs in the fourth before settling down and striking out the side to keep the shut out going.
Brandon Oliver came on and pitched a perfect fifth to secure Helper's 17th win overall.
With double digit hits over the shortened five inning game, Helper bats were hot Monday night.
Bryce Blackburn, who is riding a streak, totaled three singles as did Tyler Procarione. Ridge Nielson picked up a pair of singles and both Dakota Cisneros and Jaren McCourt had doubles.
"We had 11 hits as a team and we played another solid game both offensively and defensively," said Helper Head Coach Jeff Cisneros.
The Helper squad now is now 17-2 overall pending Wednesday night's game versus Olympus.
This Saturday, the Salt Lake Valley vs. North All-star game will take place at 7 p.m. at Spring Mobile Park in Salt Lake.
According to Cisneros, this is the first time the league has had this all-star game and is looking to heavily promote American Legion baseball all over the state.
"The coaches from our league and the coaches from the North league both voted on the players for this game and we have four players that will represent us," said Cisneros. Bryce Blackburn, Dakota Cisneros, Tyler Procarione and Derek Young will all represent Helper in the game.
"This is a nice honor for our players and a great opportunity for them to play on a big league park," concluded the coach. "The cost is free and we would like to get as many people to attend and support the game as we can."
