A new stage for Wellington

Wellington Mayor Ben Blackburn takes a break from laying cinderblocks Monday morning to talk about the new stage being built in the Main Street park. "We've been renting a stage from the college for years," he says, "and it's a real back-breaker setting it up." So with donated and discounted materials and volunteer work - including his own labor - the park is getting a permanent stage for entertainment. It will have electricity, a wheelchair ramp, and eventually a permanent roof for performers. Blackburn says he expects it to be finished in time for the Pioneer Day celebration, the city's biggest event. R.C. Pierce Construction, Sutherland's and Geneva Rock have helped with the project so far.
