Despite some early defeats, one local baseball team used that as motivation to spark a turnaround to a top finish at a baseball tournament in Richfield.

The Eastern Utah Diamondbacks 11u team recently competed in a Father's Day Tournament in Richfield where they earned the title of Reserve Champion. They started off with two seeding games on Friday and after two disappointing losses entered the tournament as the bottom seed for the 11u bracket despite a Home Run hit by Dan Elder and a ground rule double hit by Kagen Rhodes in the first game and another home run hit by Tyler Wright in the second game. The two losses set the team up for a long day on Saturday if they wanted to make it to the championship game.

Their first game on Saturday morning was against the team from Beaver which the Diamondbacks were able to defeat with a 7-3 victory with the help of another home run from Dan Elder and doubles from Carter Sorenson and Trace Bunnell.

The second game of the day was against a team from South Sevier which also resulted in a Diamondbacks 4-3 victory. However, the Dbacks were down one player after Nick Olson was hit in the hand by a wild pitch and left with a fractured finger.

The third game of the day pitted the Diamondbacks against a team they had faced before and had been unable to defeat, The Strike from Roosevelt. The Diamondbacks battled for a 7-5 win. The entire team had hits in this game and another double hit by Kagen Rhodes.

In their fourth game and final game of the day, the exhausted team faced the Dixie Storm who had only played two games prior to the championship game. The Diamondbacks were unable to defeat the Storm for the championship despite a Home Run hit by Kaleb Nelson.

The team finished as the Reserve Champions after a hard fought battle and long day of baseball.
