Strong offense, timely pitching give Price American Legion team 3rd place finish
The Price American Legion baseball team is taking things one game at a time. That may be the best recipe for their success to start the 2013 season.
Price went 4-1 in a tournament in Green River, Wyo., over the weekend walking away with a third place finish.
The team outscored their opponents 52-27 over the three-day tournament.
The offense broke out for 18 runs in the third inning of a 26-5 win over Riverton, Wyo., in their second game.
The offense also came up big in their third place game against Summit, Colo., as Price scratched and clawed their way to a 12-11 win in eight innings to complete the tournament.
The tournament result came after Price completed a five-run comeback against Cyprus on Wednesday afternoon to pick up a key 7-6 win in league play.
Assistant coach Joe Rhoades said the team showed a lot of heart by battling back to win close games over the past week.
"We were behind in some of the games but the guys battled back and were able to pick up some big wins," said Rhoades.
Price (6-2 overall, 2-1 league play) hosted Olympus on Monday evening at home and will travel to play East on Wednesday before returning home for the Helper Tournament this weekend.
