ROCK SPRINGS,Wyo. - Ellen Victoria Perri, age 89, of Rock Springs, passed away due to a sudden illness Thursday, June 13, 2013 at her home in the comforts of her family.
Ellen was a longtime resident of Sweetwater County living in Green River before moving to Rock Springs. Ellen was born and spent the first half of her life as a resident of Helper. She was active and full of life up unto the end. She was a true saint on this earth that comforted everyone around her.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1923 in Helper, the daughter of Joe and Victoria Priano Casella.
Ellen graduated from Carbon High School in Price in 1943.
Ellen married Michael John Perri on June 22, 1946 in Helper and the two celebrated 67 tremendous years together sharing a magical life full of many blessings. The Perri's had two children, Michael (Bear) Perri and Debra Lee (Perri) Rubeck. In 1999 their son Michael passed away from cardiac arrest while Debra continues to live in Rock Springs.
Ellen was always marveled for her beauty and elegance and was often approached by complete strangers that would comment on the graceful way she carried herself.
Ellen worked for Kilfoyle Inc., in Price in a job that supported the United States military during World War II.
In 1966 Ellen moved to Green River, Wyo., with her husband and family when Mike gained employment with Stauffer Chemical currently known as OCI. Mike and Ellen managed the Walker's Motel in Green River for nearly ten years and would have continued to do so had the owner's not have sold it.
The Perri's spent a good portion of their lives in the outdoors and built a cabin on Commissary Ridge near Kemmerer, Wyo., in 1976. Ellen was also an active member of the Young-at-Heart Senior Citizen Center in Rock Springs and a contributing member of the Italian Lodge in Helper. Her main activity at the Young-at-Heart Center was polka dancing as her and Mike drove many miles throughout the region traveling to polka festivals during the mid-1990s.
When Mike retired in 1987 the two of them became consistent supporters of local athletics as their grandchildren participated in many sports. The two were simply known as "Grandma" and "Grandpa" by members of the teams as their presence was always felt.
Survivors include her husband, Mike; sister, Jama (Robert) Grundy, Helper; daughter, Debra (Dennis) Mark Rubeck; daughter-in-law, Sandra Perri, St. George; granddaughter, Nicki Ann (Billy) Kirkwood, Helper; grandson, Dennis Perri (Alicia) Rubeck, Green River, Wyo; grandson, James Domonic (Jennifer) Rubeck, Rock Springs; granddaughter, Ellen Markae (Josh) Lester, Rock Springs. Ellen is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Jessica Kirkwood, Kristen Mitchell, Joseph King, Jake Kirkwood, Emma Rubeck, Chezni Rubeck, Tiana King and Stone Rubeck.
Ellen was preceded in death by her son Michael, her mother, her father whom died when Ellen was six months old, her three brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyo. A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Vase Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery in Helper.The family of Ellen Victoria Perri respectfully suggests that donations in her memory be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Community, 116 Broadway, Rock Springs, Wyo., or Young At Heart Senior Center, 2400 Reagan, Rock Springs, Wyo.
