After a year of waiting, the Helper American Legion baseball team finally has a field of their own to call home.

And after a year of playing away from their own home field, the Helper American Legion baseball team didn't waste much time in trying to get adjusted to their familiar surroundings as they soundly defeated Granger 10-0 in five innings.

"Top to bottom, we're playing pretty sound baseball right now," said Helper head coach Jeff Cisneros.

After a scoreless first inning, Helper scored two runs in the bottom of the second to the take the lead, one they would never relinquish.

Helper added runs in each of the next three innings including a game-winning double off the bat of Jaren McCourt in the bottom of the fifth inning that completed the 10-0 mercy rule win.

Ridge Nielson went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Derek Young had two RBIs and Tyler Procarione chipped in a double and an RBI.

Dakota Cisneros pitched a complete game shutout for Helper, allowing only one hit to Granger to pick up the win.

Jeff Cisneros said the team is playing well to start the season. The Helper offense is averaging 9.66 runs per game has outscored their opponents 58 to 8 over their first six games.

"The guys are seeing the ball really well at the plate," said Cisneros. "We still want them to work on being aggressive early in the count and look for their pitch to hit."

Cisneros also said he was pleased with the turnout for the team's first game back at their home field in over a year. The ball field was closed for repairs over the past year.

"We had a good crowd and it was good to be back home," he said.

Helper (5-1 overall, 2-0 in league play) hosted Cyprus on Wednesday evening (June 12) and will travel to Hunter on Friday, June 14 for a game at 6 p.m.
