Price American Legion off to good start with unique win
The Price American Legion Baseball team picked up its first win in interesting fashion.
In their opening game of the season, the Price team was awarded a forfeit win over Hunter when the visiting team did not have enough players to field a team. But in a back and forth scrimmage game that followed, Price built an early lead and held on for a 7-6 win in six innings at the USU Eastern Baseball Field on Wednesday night.
Chris Smith hit a two-run triple and Nick Rhoades followed with an RBI double to help Price extend a lead late in the game. Austin Salazar added to the offense with a two-out RBI double.
John Grasso picked up the win as relievers Rhoades and Steven Zamatakis closed out the win for Price.
Price head coach Willie Ellington said he was pleased with how the team looked in their first game of the season.
"There was a lot of teamwork out there on the field today," said Ellington. "We just need to concentrate on playing together and just having a fun time out there on the field."
Price hosted Hillcrest on Monday evening and they are scheduled to host Cyprus on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at USU Eastern Baseball Field.
