An off-road adventure that would have covered a large portion of the state was cut short Saturday afternoon when a motorcyclist from northern Utah crashed just south of U.S. Highway 6 near Mounds.

The rider, Doug Bailey, was traveling with two friends, Jeremiah Kavanaugh and Bobby Robbins, when he lost control approximately seven miles south of Cat Canyon. Bailey was reportedly pinned by his motorcycle, as his friends located U.S. 6 and directed emergency personnel to the accident.

After being stabilized by Carbon County EMTs, Bailey was transported to Castleview Hospital at approximately 3 p.m., where he was treated for a possible broken leg and skin lacerations.

The three friends have been riding Utah's back country for the past several years, according to Kavanaugh. In fact, the trip which was cut short by today's crash began in Ogden and was slated to finish up in Moab.

"That was the plan and we almost made it," said Kavanaugh, with a smile. "But now I got to go take care of my buddy. Trip cut short, but it's been a fun time and I'm pretty sure he's going to be okay."

The group has been gearing up for this larger ride for quite some time. In the future, their plans include making the voyage again.

"We do little segments of it here and there," said Kavanaugh. "This is our first time doing this big of a chunk of it. Eventually, we'll get from Idaho to Arizona all off-road, that's the goal ultimately."
