The Carbon County Chamber of Commerce held their monthly member luncheon at JB's on May 16. During that luncheon Jackie Davis was of Price Floral was selected as the business owner of the month and was given the award by Bobbi Sandoval, chamber president. The speaker for the luncheon was Shelly Ivie, the service area coordinator of the Utah Division of Workforce Services. She spoke about various programs that DWS offers and also offered up a snapshot of the current economic conditions in the Carbon County. She passed out documents that show Carbon Counties unemployment rate is 7 percent, 1.8 percent higher than the state and .7 percent less that the average across the United States. The graphs also show that mining employment has declined in the county at a fairly constant rate since late 2008 when over 1500 people were employed in mining in the area.
