On May 30 the Sun Advocate Vacation Guide will come out as a supplement to the Sun Advocate, a publication that has become a tradition each year.

"We have created the guide for many years now and I think people have come to rely on it for information and activity," said Richard Shaw, publisher of the Sun Advocate and Emery County Progress.

The guide has become a bible for many in the community when it comes to events and areas to visit.

"As important as it is to local folks, it is also important to our tourist industry," said Shaw. "The publication is sent all over the world by the county's travel bureau, so people know what to look for when they get here."

Because of that, the emphasis this year is on venues to see in the area. The guide is also putting more emphasis on the types of people the area generally attracts, including; hikers, mountain bikers and ATV enthusiasts.

"We have to realize that while there are a lot of people who come here to see the USU Eastern Museum and the Helper Railroad and Mining Museum, many don't know about the opportunities that abound here for hiking and mountain biking. Few also know that we have some great places to ride ATVs," stated Shaw.

Included in this year's guide is a two page section with the activities that are going on all summer and into the fall as well. That two page section surrounds a map of the area so that people can see where those events are located.

"I think that the photos in the guide are also outstanding and show off our area in a great way," said Shaw.

The Vacation Guide is one of about 30 specials the paper produces each year which subscribers and stand sales customers get to see.

"The largest part of our charge is to cover the news in our area," says Shaw. "But we also need to help sell our assets to outside interests. There are a number of specials we put out each year that help us to do just that."
