Molina Healthcare honored local volunteer Mae Aguayo for her leadership and service at the sixth annual Community Champions Awards Event at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center.

"What makes Mae an inspiration to us all is her selflessness and drive to always keep on giving," said Chad Westover, president of Molina Healthcare Utah. "She continuously gives to everyone, extending love and compassion to all those she touches."

On top of working as a clerk for the Southeastern Utah Health Department, Aguayo organizes fundraisers for families in need of medical equipment, recently holding a fundraiser for a young man in need of a wheelchair.

She offers workshops for parents of special needs children on topics like the ABC's of Autism, neurological disorders and ADHD. But Aguayo doesn't stop there, she also cares for children that have been removed from their home until foster care is arranged and for children whose parents are in need of respite care.

Established to honor the memory of Molina Healthcare's founder Dr. C. David Molina, the Community Champions award program spotlights the good deeds of everyday heroes in their communities. Molina Healthcare has been hosting the Community Champions Awards for seven years in the states that it operates. The winners are nominated by community-based organizations and they also receive $1,000 grants to give to deserving nonprofit organizations as part of their award. Aguayo presented her grant to Family Support & Justice Center.
