Lenten Lunches help raise over $1,200 for Boys and Girls Club
For many years now the United Methodists Women have sponsored the Lenten Lunches during the six weeks of lent.
It is held at the Methodist Church in the fellowship hall every Wednesday at 12 p.m. for a lunch of soup and bread.
This luncheon was started as an ecumenical way to share lunch and celebrate our diversity while discovering our common Christian Heritage. Over time it has turned out to be an amazing inspiration for all who are involved.
There were five churches that participated this year including Ascension St. Matthew's - Pastor James H. Drury (Episcopal/Lutheran), New Life Ministry-Pastor Andrew Lasslo (Independent Pentecostal), Price Chapel-Pastor Milton (Christian Missionary Alliance Church), St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church-Father Albert (Catholic Church), Price Community United Methodist Church-Rev. Les Huseby (United Methodist).
It is sad to see that other faiths in the community do not see this as a wonderful way to get together and explore our difference with a heart of community instead of building walls of mistrust and suspicion.
The free will offering that each luncheon generates is then given to a community action group, this year it was decided that the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County be given the proceeds which amounted to $1,247.87 with a special gift of $75.00 given by Ascension St. Matthew's Church.
