Carbon County Deputy Sheriff Mike Hreinson escorts 47-year-old Shawn Evans of Moab to a waiting vehicle for transport to county jail Friday morning. Evans and a companion, Jennifer Hamblin, 41, also of Moab, were taken into custody and booked on charges of theft of copper communication lines belonging to Union Pacific Railroad, criminal mischief and trespass on railroad property. Lt. Tory Christiansen said that a passerby called in a suspicious vehicle parked at mile marker 245 on US 6 between Price and Wellington. Deputies and Highway Patrol troopers responded and found Hamblin in the car, and discovered Evans in the bushes beside some downed communication wires on the side of the road. The duo had apparently cashed in some of the line on Thursday and had returned for more. The lines were not in service.
