With the high school baseball season now in full swing, the Carbon High Dinos will need to find their groove in a hurry as an 0-2 start in Region 12 play has them in an unfamiliar position looking up in the standings.

Starting off the Region 12 schedule with two games against Spanish Fork did the Dinos no favors as they dropped both matchups last week, including a 12-7 loss at Spanish Fork on March 26 and a 5-2 defeat at home on March 28.

The Dinos fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but starting pitcher Jarod Lessar began to find his rhythm as he pitched into the fifth inning before being taken out.

The Dinos offense tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning with timely hitting from Nick Rukavina and Derek Young.

But that was all the Dinos could muster against Spanish Fork pitcher Cortlen Nielsen who pitched a complete game allowing two runs and four hits.

Carbon High head coach Troy Moynier said his team has struggled on offense all season long. With a short break in Region 12 play this week, Moynier said he is hoping that the team will work on improving in every facet before resuming region play next week.

"We need to work on being more aggressive at the plate," said Moynier after Thursday's 5-2 loss. "We need to take the ball the other way, get on base and focus on doing the little things needed to win."

The Dinos will travel to play Olympus High on Wednesday, April 3 before returning home to host East High on Friday, April 5 at 3 p.m. at the Carbon High Baseball Field.
