A 55-year-old Emery County employee was arrested on March 8 at the Emery County Building in Castle Dale and now faces nine charges of distribution of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone.

The defendant, Cardell Ezra Sackett, was an employee in the Economic Development Office.

An informant alerted the Emery County Sheriff's Office that he was allegedly selling prescription drugs. Sheriff Greg Funk and Detective Garrett Conover arranged for some controlled buys from Sackett.

According to Conover, Sackett explained that he had prescriptions for a medical condition, but there were additional pills in his possession not associated with his prescription.

The defendant made his initial appearance in Seventh Judicial District Court in Castle Dale Tuesday. Judge George Harmond scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 19. Sackett is being held at the Emery County jail on $135,000 bail.
