HELPER - John W. "Billy" Smith, age 71, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2013.
He was born on Jan. 8, 1942 in Provo to Clayton William and Maurine Virginia Clark Smith.
Married Janet Lee Muncy on May 12, 1961 in Las Vegas, Nev.
He grew up in Carbon County and served eight years in the U.S. Army and was a disabled Vietnam Veteran.
He was always there for anyone who needed help. Billy held a number of positions during his life. He was a driller for H.E. Loudermilk, machinist and general foreman for Utah Railway and police officer for Helper City. He retired from the Utah Railway in 1991.
He was a member of the American Legion in Ferron and E. Clampus Vitus, Chapter 19, Helper,. Billy enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved teasing them and liked to sit and talk with the older ones.
He will be dearly missed.
Survived by his wife, Janet, Helper; daughter, Bridget Smith, Helper; son, Clayton (Misty) Smith, Pleasant Grove, UT; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sisters, Dian Jewkes and Mary Etta Taylor; son, Mikel Lee Smith.
The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and hospice for their tender care and concern in helping Billy and our family through his last days. Also, Mitchell Funeral Home and there staff for the compassion they have shown for our family.
Billy's service will be Friday, March 8, 2013, 1 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
Family will be at Mitchell's Friday one hour prior to services. Graveside service Price City Cemetery.
