After a long season filled with plenty of ups and down, it may be hard to see the silver linings hidden beneath the missed shots, turnovers and losses the Carbon High girls basketball team endured at the 3A state tournament on Thursday and Friday.

The Lady Dinos struggled offensively in a 43-23 loss to Dixie High, who advanced to win the 3A State Championship, on Thursday and let a fourth quarter lead disappear on Friday in a tough 56-48 defeat to Bear River in the consolation bracket.

Carbon High head coach Ted Bianco said his young team accomplished a lot this season, including just making the tournament when no one thought they would.

"It was a huge accomplishment just to get here to the tournament," said Bianco after the team was eliminated from the tournament. "We played good teams here but it also shows that we've got our work cut out for ourselves next year."

Bianco said with a roster full of players returning next year, including four starters, the experience of competing at the state tournament will pay off despite the end results.

"The number one thing I want the team to take away from this is the experience," he explained. "It was worth all of the hard work coming up here and it should help pay huge dividends for the team next season."

Bianco said he was pleased to see many bench players stepping up and making key plays during their time on the court.

Now with the state tournament over with, Bianco said the team now knows that hard work and a determination to improve will be key during the offseason.

"They need to be in the gym working hard to get better if they want to make it back to state," he said.
